The water is typically sheltered by the surrounding mangrove islands and coastal geography, which keeps wind chop minimal even on breezy days. Tidal influence is significant, however. Paddling with an incoming tide makes for easier cruising, while an outgoing tide can reveal shallow mud flats that look deceptively navigable.
