About This Route

The Weeki Wachee River is one of Florida's shortest and most stunning spring-fed paddling rivers. Fed by one of the deepest freshwater springs in the US, the water clarity is extraordinary — you can see the bottom clearly throughout the entire 5.5-mile run.

This lazy downstream float passes through untouched hardwood swamp with massive cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. Manatees are frequent visitors, especially from November through March when they seek the warm 74°F spring water.

The paddle is easy and suitable for beginners, though the put-in at the springs can be busy. Most paddlers take 3-4 hours to complete the run, stopping frequently to swim, snorkel, or simply drift in the current.
