About This Route

Nine Mile Pond in Everglades National Park is the most accessible paddling trail in the Everglades and one of the most unique kayaking experiences in the United States. The marked canoe trail winds through sawgrass prairie, mangrove tunnels, and open ponds in the heart of the River of Grass.

The trail passes through tight mangrove tunnels where branches brush your boat on both sides — an intimate and slightly claustrophobic experience unique to the Everglades. Open ponds offer views across the vast sawgrass prairie to the horizon.

Alligators, wading birds, turtles, and fish are abundant. The Everglades is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, International Biosphere Reserve, and Wetland of International Importance — one of only three places on Earth with all three designations.
