Drumpoint Marina sits on the western shore of Barnegat Bay, one of New Jersey's most accessible shallow-water paddling destinations. This launch point gives you direct access to a sprawling estuary that stretches for miles, with calm water, sandy bottom, and a mix of open bay, marsh channels, and island-dotted passages. The bay is protected from ocean swells by a barrier island system, making it ideal if you want to paddle without worrying about heavy waves. The area around Drumpoint is relatively undeveloped compared to other Barnegat Bay access points, so you'll encounter fewer crowds while still having convenient facilities nearby.

Once on the water, expect narrow tidal channels bordered by salt marsh, shallow flats perfect for exploring, and enough open water to build a longer paddle if you want. Conditions change noticeably with the tide. At high tide, you can paddle deeper into the marsh creeks and access spots that dry out otherwise. Low tide exposes flats and creates strong currents in the main channels. Water clarity varies seasonally but is generally brown-tinted due to tannins from the marshes, which is completely normal for this ecosystem. Wind can pick up on the open bay sections, but the surrounding geography usually keeps conditions manageable. This is genuine beginner water as long as you respect the tide and stay aware of navigation markers.

Drumpoint Marina operates March through November, which aligns perfectly with the best paddling season in New Jersey. Spring and fall offer ideal temperatures and consistent wind patterns. Summer crowds arrive, but the protected bay rarely gets truly dangerous. The marina sits just 2 miles from downtown Brick, making it one of the easier Bay accesses to reach if you're coming from northern New Jersey. There's parking available, and the marina has basic amenities including water access, rentals, and a small shop. If you're bringing your own boat, launching is straightforward from the sandy beach area. Arrive early on weekends, as parking fills up quickly. Bring a tide chart and plan your paddle around slack water if you're new to tidal paddling. The bay's shallow nature means you can wade to safety easily if needed, but always wear a PFD and keep an eye on weather conditions.
