On the water, expect calm, sheltered conditions most days, which is exactly why this location works so well for beginners and recreational paddlers. The bay is shallow throughout, typically ranging from 2 to 6 feet deep, so you'll never be far from bottom. Tidal movements are noticeable here, with roughly 4 to 5 feet of range depending on the lunar cycle, so plan your paddling time accordingly and be mindful of current direction when launching. The marsh edges attract herons, egrets, and osprey regularly, making for good wildlife viewing opportunities. Water temperature varies significantly by season, ranging from the 40s in early spring to the mid-70s by summer, so dress appropriately.
