Paddling is easiest around high tide when channels open up and navigation becomes straightforward. Wind is your main consideration here, as even light to moderate breezes can create chop in the open bay areas. The paddling terrain splits between tight bayou channels where you'll navigate around marsh islands and more open water near the main bay. Wildlife viewing is excellent; you'll likely encounter wading birds, mullet schools, and occasionally dolphins. Currents are gentle, and the shallow bottom provides confidence for newer paddlers. Expect other recreational users, especially on weekends.

High tide is genuinely worth timing your trip around; launching 1.5 hours before high tide gives you maximum water depth and time to explore.
