About This Location
Boat ramp on Lake Barkley near Eddyville, KY. Calm bay with good kayak fishing for bass and crappie. Part of the Land Between the Lakes region.
Honker Bay is a sheltered cove on Lake Barkley, the 57,920-acre impoundment of the Cumberland River in western Kentucky. The ramp sits in a protected inlet that stays calm even when the main lake is rough, making it a reliable launch year-round.
This area is part of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, which separates Lake Barkley from Kentucky Lake to the west. The two lakes combined offer over 200 miles of shoreline for paddling. From Honker Bay, you can paddle south along the wooded eastern shore or cross to the Land Between the Lakes peninsula for more remote shoreline.
Kayak fishing is the main draw. Lake Barkley produces excellent largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, and sauger. The rocky points and submerged structure near the bay mouth are productive spots. Spring (March through May) brings the best crappie fishing as they move into shallow coves to spawn.
The ramp has parking for about 10 vehicles. Eddyville is 11 miles away for supplies and fuel. No entrance fee at this ramp, though some nearby Corps-managed areas charge a day-use fee during summer.
