About This Location

Public ramp on Rend Lake near Ina in southern Illinois. 18,900-acre reservoir with calm water, fishing, and multiple launch points.

This ramp provides access to Rend Lake, an 18,900-acre Army Corps of Engineers reservoir in southern Illinois between Benton and Mount Vernon. Rend Lake is one of the largest lakes in the state and sees heavy recreational use, but its size means there is always room to find quiet water.

The ramp near Ina sits on the eastern shore and launches into a relatively sheltered section. Parking is adequate for a dozen vehicles. The ramp surface is concrete and usable at most water levels, though extreme drawdowns in late summer can expose mud at the edges.

Kayak fishing is popular here. The lake holds largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish. Paddle the coves and brush piles along the eastern shoreline for the best fishing. The standing timber areas in the north end of the lake offer structure-rich water that bass anglers favor.

Rend Lake has multiple other ramps and access points if this one is full. The Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area on the west shore and the dam area both have larger facilities with restrooms. Best from April through October, though mild southern Illinois winters allow year-round paddling on calm days.
